In June, we had the chance to spend a week at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska with thousands of high school thespians and theatre educators from around the world. It was amazing to be surround by such a love and passion for theatre and theatre arts, from the performers on stage to the crew in the back.
We were inspired by their passion and wanted to help these budding actors, actresses, dancers, and directors take a big first step in their careers. So at our booth, we had a video camera set up and asked people walking by, "Why do you love theatre?" Each response entered them into a random drawing contest to win free career or audition coaching with a New York City casting director. Here are some of the responses.
The winner, Jackie Smook, a senior at the Denver School of the Arts, said, " I am excited to work with a casting director so I can truly get a 'feel' for the life I am working to pursue." She's planning to apply to collegiate musical theatre and opera programs this coming year and is excited to fine-tune her audition technique with a leading industry professional.
Seeing the passion and determination of aspiring artists -- from dancers to singers, actors to musicians -- inspires everyone here at Acceptd to keep working hard to make sure every artist, no matter where they come from, has the opportunity to get their talents discovered, find new opportunities, and connect with professionals who can help make their dreams come true.
