It’s the time of year for family fun and eating way too much! Amidst the turkey carving and pie eating, I want to remind you to use this holiday season as a chance to remind yourself of all the ways you should be grateful. Here are some examples to get you thinking:
Your Passion/Art
Knowing what you want to do and who you want to be when you are older is a huge gift at your age. Many people who head off to college enter as undeclared or undecided in the hopes that they’ll discover a passion throughout the next four years. You, however, are pursuing your dreams already and for that you should be grateful! Also, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Dance and Cinematic Arts are all amazing ways to express yourself and have your voice be heard. Remember to be grateful for the gifts you were given and your desire to share this with the world.
Getting an Education
Getting an education is something that many people throughout the world don’t have the opportunity to receive. Whether it’s a class you attend, a teacher who inspires you or even a test that completely frustrates you – try to remind yourself that you are fortunate to be in school learning. If you are heading to college next year to pursue a performing arts degree, there’s even more reasons for you to be thankful and grateful this holiday season.
Your Parents/Guardians
At times they may drive you crazy, but I bet deep down inside you couldn’t be more grateful for the people who take care of you. Your guardians help foster your dreams and make them a reality because they believe in you. Show them you are grateful for them this Thanksgiving by offering to help in the kitchen or even do the dishes after the big meal. They deserve it.
Challenges
Yes, you read that right! Obstacles and difficult challenges are what make us who we are today. Remember the first time you didn’t get the part you wanted in your school play? Or the lead solo was given to someone else? Those moments of pain help us to be grateful for the fabulous and positive things that come our way. Challenges allow for reflection and they force us to find the positive in any situation. You wouldn’t have much to pull from for your art if everything went perfectly smooth in your life, right?
Ice Cream/Lattes/Favorite Movies/Weekends
And the list can go on and on. As you go throughout this next week, I want you to take note of every time you are grateful for something – even if it’s as small as getting to sleep in and hit the snooze button. Little moments of gratitude truly add up to make you happier and more content.
Happy Turkey Day from everyone at Acceptd!
