Giving Thanks

Published November 24th, 2016

Thanksgiving is a time where we often take a second to stop and reflect on what we are thankful for. It’s important to appreciate and give thanks to the things that make your life meaningful and fulfilling.

This year, however, I want you to think about not only what you are thankful for but who you are thankful for. I guarantee there are a few people in your life that you are pretty sure you couldn’t (or wouldn’t want to) live without.

Here are a few people you might want to shoot a kind text to or hug extra hard this holiday season:

Mentors

It’s nearly impossible to be in the arts without having someone that has mentored you or inspired you to take this career path. It could be your drama teacher, a local musician you emulate or your neighbor who is a better painter than anyone you know. Let them know how much you appreciate them and the inspiration that they have given you.

Parents

C’mon, they are the best! If you are lucky enough to have a parent or caretaker who believes in you and helps you achieve your goals – they deserve some help loading and unloading the dishwasher this year. Having someone who believes in you and stands by you can often be a fundamental key to success.

Friends

Friends can be family that you choose for yourself. We all have that friend who shows up when they say they are going to and supports us by being front row every time. Be sure to tell your friends how much you appreciate their willingness to believe in you!

Coaches

Coaches for music, dance and acting are often much more than just your “coach.” Often, they serve as a shoulder to cry on when you need to vent. Or the first person to congratulate you when your hard work pays off. If you have a coach who often plays a mini therapist role for you as well, don’t forget to tell them how much they mean to you.

What you put into the world will always come back to you. Fill the world with positive karma this holiday season. Tis the season to show how thankful you are!
